In short: A live doodle booth gives each guest a cute, hand-drawn ink card of themselves in 2 to 3 minutes. A caricature artist draws funny, exaggerated portraits, and a photo booth prints photo strips in seconds. Choose a doodle booth for personal keepsakes, a caricature artist for laughs, and a photo booth for very large crowds.
Every couple I meet asks some version of the same question: we want something fun for the guests, so should it be a doodle booth, a caricature artist or a photo booth? I run Baasi’s Live Doodle Booth here in Bengaluru, so I’m not exactly neutral. But I’ve stood next to all three at weddings across Bengaluru, and each one is brilliant at something different. Here’s the honest version.
The quick comparison
| Doodle booth | Caricature artist | Photo booth | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What guests take home | A small hand-drawn ink card of themselves | A drawn portrait with exaggerated features | A printed photo strip |
| Style | Cute, kind, chibi style | Big noses, big laughs | Photos with props |
| Time per guest | 2 to 3 minutes | A few minutes | Under a minute |
| Guests per hour | Roughly 20 to 30 | Varies by artist | As many as can queue |
| The feeling | A little chat, everyone crowds round to watch | Teasing and laughter | Quick and silly |
| Best for | Guests feeling seen, a happy queue | Crowds who love a roast | Very large guest lists |
The doodle booth
At a doodle booth, a guest sits across from the artist, chats for a minute, and watches themselves appear on a card in ink. At my booth that takes about two to three minutes a face, so roughly 20 to 30 faces an hour. The style is chibi: small, round and kind. Nobody walks away upset about their nose.
What surprises couples most is the crowd it draws. People stand behind the guest being drawn and narrate every line, and the card becomes the thing guests show each other all evening. It works best at the mehendi, sangeet, cocktail night or reception, when people are hanging around between things.
Good to know: because each card is drawn by hand, a doodle booth draws fewer people per hour than a photo booth. For a big wedding, book more hours or choose the moments where guests are most relaxed. You can see how mine works, with real photos and prices, on the doodle booth page.
The caricature artist
Caricature is the classic. Artists exaggerate features for comedy, and the best ones are genuinely hilarious. If your family loves teasing each other and your friends would frame a portrait of themselves with an enormous chin, a caricaturist will be the hit of the night.
The thing to think about is your guest list. Some people love being exaggerated. Others, especially older relatives or anyone shy about their looks, would rather not. If you’re unsure, ask to see a caricaturist’s work and imagine your grandmother holding it.
The photo booth
Photo booths are fast, cheerful and great with props. If you have several hundred guests and a short window, nothing gets through people faster, and the photos make an easy digital album afterwards.
The trade-off is that it’s the same experience every guest has had at every other wedding, and printed strips tend to end up in handbags and then drawers.
So which one should you choose?
- Choose a doodle booth if you want guests to feel personally looked after, and to take home something they’ll keep on the fridge.
- Choose a caricature artist if your crowd loves a laugh at their own expense.
- Choose a photo booth if your guest list is very large and time is short.
- Combine them if you have the budget: a photo booth for the dance floor and a doodle booth for the quieter corners works beautifully.
Whatever you choose, plan for one table, a couple of chairs, decent light and a spot where a queue won’t block the buffet. Your vendor will thank you.
Questions couples ask me
What is a live doodle booth?
A live doodle booth is a drawing station at an event, where an artist draws each guest in ink on a small card while they watch. Baasi’s Live Doodle Booth is based in Bengaluru, draws a face in 2 to 3 minutes and travels to events across India.
How far ahead should we book?
As soon as you have a date. Weekends in wedding season go first, and I need at least three days’ notice.
Can the cards have our names and wedding date?
Yes. Custom cards with your names, date or a little line of your own are one of the nicest touches. They turn every doodle into a wedding favour.
Do you travel outside Bengaluru?
Yes, the booth travels across India. Tell me your city and date and we’ll work out travel together.
If a doodle booth sounds like your kind of wedding, check your date and book here. I reply within 24 hours.

I’m an artist in Bengaluru. I paint the city, draw people live at the doodle booth, and post hand-drawn letters through the Yel’love Pawst. More about me · @baasi.in
